FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What's the difference between a rescue and a sanctuary?
A rescue is an organization that typically rescues dogs from various situations, places the dog in a temporary foster home and then finds an adoptive forever home for the animal. As a Sanctuary, we rescue dogs from shelters and they live here for the rest of their lives. We do not rehome our dogs. Primarily, our Sanctuary acts as a hospice.
Are any of your dogs available for adoption?
Nope. Once a dog lands here, here is where they stay and live happily ever after.
Do you need volunteers?
Our Sanctuary is run out of our home, so volunteers are tricky. Would I like to have someone come over and do the dishes, cook my husband’s dinner, help my son with his math homework, do my six loads of laundry per day and clean up the new dog mess that appears every 30 seconds? Well, sure. But it might get a little awkward. We do need volunteers for specific Sanctuary related things, like events or fundraisers. Are you an expert at something that you think we could benefit from? Contact me!
Do you allow visitors?
Yes, we do allow visitors, by appointment only. Our dogs are old and some are ill, visitors can sometimes add unnecessary stress and commotion to the delicate balancing act we live with on a daily basis. And this is our home. So, if you’d like to visit, contact us and we’ll see if we can set something up.
Can you take my dog, cat, pig, rooster, chupacabra, and pet rock?
Our Sanctuary does not take dogs that are owner surrenders. So no. We can’t take your dog. Please do not email us and ask…the answer is always no. Our dogs come from shelters or other rescue organizations. Because there is a tremendous amount of senior and special needs dogs at the shelters, we save any openings for these dogs that are in danger. We do not have a wait list and you cannot pay to have your dog live here. We occasionally take in farm animals on a case-by-case basis. Contact us and we’ll talk about it. As far as the pet rocks go, we are surrounded by wild rocks, so we will always be full in the rock department!
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, we are recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our Tax ID is: 46-0596056
Do you have a PACFA license?
No. We keep the number of dogs on site to 15 or less, and we don’t rehome our dogs, so we do not require a PACFA license. The dogs that live on our property are registered with the Jefferson County Sheriff, as per Jeffco regulations.
Where are you located?
We don’t give out our physical address because we end up with new dogs in the backyard and on the front porch when we come out to get the morning newspaper. Basically, the Sanctuary is our home, which is located on four acres in the small, beautiful mountain town of Conifer, Colorado. If you’d like to mail something to the Sanctuary, our mailing address is: Little Old Dog Sanctuary, P.O. Box 1409, Conifer, CO 80433.
